Agilopolis Community Conference 2 Summary

Unfortunately, second Agilopolis Community Conference should be refered in a past tense now :(. But on the other hand, all great memories and lot of acquired knowledge will stay with us forever!

Conference was opened by Ewa Schumacher and introduction of moderator - Lukasz Jastrzebski (NSN).
Moderator introduced basic rules of Open Space Technology, which were pretty simple.

Main Goal: solve concrete problems, get some real conclusions

Four rules:
  • do not worry about future or missing parts (lepszy wrobel w garsci niz skrzypek na dachu)
  • whoever comes is right (we are the experts and interested in topic)
  • no time constraints both min and max
  • stop discussion if no progress is being made

One law:
Use your feet to go to the most interesting topic for you.

Two roles:

  • butterfly (polish: 'motylek') - moderator traveling between topics and steering them into proper direction
  • team member - expert, discussing the topics, problems, experiences and possible solutions

Word of the day: defetyzm = defeatism

Just after introduction, first real task for participants was to provide list of topics they are interested and would like to discuss with others. Initially, atmospher was a little bit stif and there were not many volunteers but after few minutes of silents, few comments and laughts, quite good progress was made.
Following topics were defined:

  • How to best motivate people
  • How to do effective retrospection
  • Handling of virtual teams in agile
  • Maintanance in agile theory
  • Should story points be calibrated between Scrum teams
  • Role of PM vs SM
  • Defeatist in the team
  • most important tooling
  • Scrum Master - inside or outside of the team
